Because sometimes the best way to spend an evening is with a glass of something lovely and a whole lot of yesterday. 🍷❤️
I have a confession to make. I have a LOT of photos. And when I say a lot, I mean tens of thousands of photos, videos, scanned documents, and little pieces of our family’s history. Over 69,000 memories in my FOREVER account, to be a little more specific.
Yes. You read that correctly. 😂
And while I absolutely LOVE knowing they’re safely tucked away, organized, and waiting for future generations, there’s something I’ve come to realize.
Saving our memories is one thing. Spending time with them is something entirely different.
Which brings me to my newest favorite little ritual. Sip & Sort. 🍷
And yes, it is exactly what it sounds like.
Pour a Glass, Pull Up a Chair, and Take a Little Trip Down Memory Lane
Picture this: It’s a quiet evening. Maybe the house is finally settled, the dogs are curled up nearby, and there isn’t anything particularly pressing that needs my attention. I pour myself a glass of wine, grab my laptop, open my FOREVER account, and start sorting through our family’s memories.
Maybe I’m organizing photos from a vacation. Maybe I’m adding names and dates to pictures from years ago. Maybe I’m creating an album of family celebrations, holidays, or those wonderfully ordinary moments that didn’t seem especially important at the time.
And sometimes? I come across a picture that stops me in my tracks.
💖 A familiar smile.
💖 A kitchen I haven’t stood in for years.
💖 A holiday gathering with people I would give just about anything to sit around the table with one more time.
And suddenly, what started as a little organizing session becomes something much more meaningful. I’m not just sorting photos. I’m spending time with my story.
And I love that!
The Beauty of Finding the Ordinary in the Extraordinary
One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that the photographs we treasure most aren’t always the perfectly posed ones.
Sometimes they’re the blurry ones…the messy kitchen…the kids making ridiculous faces…the dog who insisted on being in every family picture…the Christmas morning when everyone was still in their pajamas, and nobody cared what their hair looked like.
Those are the pictures that make me smile. And sometimes cry. And occasionally laugh so hard I nearly spill my wine. 😂
Because those pictures tell the stories of real life. Not the polished version. The lived-in, loved-on, beautifully imperfect version.
And isn’t that the good stuff?
When Memory Keeping Becomes Heart-Keeping
I’ve spent much of my life as a caregiver. For my children, my parents, and other people I’ve loved along the way.
And if you’ve walked that road, you probably understand how quickly the years can blend together.
- Appointments
- Responsibilities
- Celebrations
- Hard seasons
- Ordinary days
Life happens while we’re busy living it. And sometimes we don’t fully appreciate how precious a moment was until we’re looking back at it. That’s one reason preserving our family memories has become so important to me.
After losing my parents, those photographs, stories, recipes, and family traditions took on an entirely different meaning. They’re connections. They’re reminders. They’re pieces of people I still carry with me.
I digitized my grandmother’s recipes and turned my mom’s old photo albums into beautiful digital memories she could enjoy herself.
And that experience reminded me of something I believe deeply.
Our legacy isn’t just what we leave behind. It’s what we take the time to preserve, share, and celebrate while we’re here.
A Little Organization, Without Turning It Into Another Job
Now, before you start thinking you need to tackle 30 years of family photographs this weekend…please don’t. 😂
That is NOT what Sip & Sort is about.
The whole idea is to make memory keeping something enjoyable instead of another overwhelming project. Some evenings I might spend 15 minutes organizing one album. Other times I might sort pictures from a particular year, add a few descriptions, or identify family members in older photographs.
And sometimes I just wander through the memories with no big agenda, no finish line, no pressure to get everything done.
Because here’s the thing: You don’t have to organize your entire life in one sitting to make meaningful progress.
⏳ One album.
⏳ One story.
⏳ One photograph with a name and date attached.
It all matters! And those little efforts add up to something pretty extraordinary.
Why I Love Having Our Memories in FOREVER
One of the reasons I’ve chosen FOREVER for our family’s photos, videos, documents, and stories is that I wanted more than another place to store digital files. I wanted a place where our memories could be preserved, organized, enjoyed, and eventually shared with the people who come after us. I love being able to create albums, add descriptions, and bring together the little pieces of our family’s history. Because a photograph without a story can leave a lot of unanswered questions.
🤔 Who is that?
🤔 Where were we?
🤔 What were we celebrating?
🤔 And why on earth was someone wearing THAT outfit? 😂
Adding those details now gives future generations something priceless. Context. Connection. A sense of belonging. And perhaps a better understanding of the people who came before them.
That’s what makes this so much more than digital organization for me. It’s legacy work.
And it’s work I genuinely love.
A Little Sip & Sort Inspiration 🍷
If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, here’s my invitation to you:
Pick an evening when you have a little breathing room. Pour a glass of wine, make a cup of tea, or grab whatever makes you happy. Find a cozy spot. Open up your photos. And choose just one little collection to spend time with.
Maybe it’s your last family vacation. Maybe it’s your children’s childhood pictures. Maybe it’s a box of old family photographs you’ve been meaning to scan. Or maybe it’s pictures of someone you miss.
Whatever you choose, give yourself permission to enjoy the process.
You might laugh. You might cry. You might discover a memory you had completely forgotten. And you might find yourself feeling a little more connected to the life you’ve lived.
That’s a pretty lovely way to spend an evening, don’t you think?
The Care & Glow Connection: Preserving Memories Is Caring for Ourselves, Too
We talk a lot here at Care & Glow about making room for ourselves in the middle of life’s responsibilities.
About slowing down. Finding joy in simple things. Honoring the seasons we’ve lived through. And remembering that our stories matter.
For me, Sip & Sort fits beautifully into all of that. It’s creative. It’s meaningful. It’s a little nostalgic. And it’s a reminder that taking care of ourselves doesn’t always mean doing something new.
Sometimes it means revisiting something beautiful that was already there.
👉 A photograph.
👉 A story.
👉 A memory.
👉 A life well loved.
👉 And maybe a glass of wine to go with it. 🍷
A Little Glow Note: You don’t have to preserve every moment perfectly. Just begin with the ones that make your heart smile. Because someday, someone may look at that photograph you took the time to save, read the story you added, and feel connected to a person or moment they never had the chance to experience themselves.
And that, my friends, is a legacy of love. So here’s to more evenings of sipping, sorting, remembering, and smiling. And to preserving the stories that make us who we are.
One memory at a time.
P.S. If you’ve been wondering how to begin organizing and preserving your own family’s memories, I’d love to share why I use FOREVER and how you can get started. No overwhelm, no pressure. Just one memory at a time.
