Clock over leaves symbolizes caregiver planning: set boundaries, save time, and protect energy for balance.

Spend Time to Save Time

“You have to give some to get some.” We usually hear that phrase about money, but it’s just as true about time.

When we’re very young or very old, time seems endless. But in the middle seasons of life, it can feel like there’s never enough. Between work, family, and everything else on our plates, time becomes one of the most valuable things we have.

That’s why learning to manage it with intention matters so much. And the good news? A few small shifts can make a big difference. I like to remember the simple acronym TIMEfour steps that help me spend time more wisely so I can save it later.

T is for “Taking Time to Plan”

Every minute spent planning usually saves at least that much (if not more) when it’s time to get things done. Think about it: grocery shopping without a list, errands without a route, or projects without a plan — they all lead to wasted time.

Even a few minutes of preparation can make your day much easier.

I is for “Involving Others”

We don’t have to carry it all alone. Involving family, coworkers, or friends in our plans not only lightens the load but can also spark new ideas. Sometimes just talking things through with someone gives clarity.

And don’t forget: sharing the work is just as important as sharing the planning.

M is for “Meditation (or Simply Pausing)

Life gets busy, but taking a few quiet moments to reflect can be a game-changer. (But please give yourself grace and focus on the positive things you have completed, delegated, or dismissed.) Whether it’s deep breathing, prayer, journaling, or simply sitting still, pausing helps clear your mind and refocus your energy.

That little reset can actually make you more productive — and far less stressed — when you dive back into your day.

E is for “Evaluation”

Every so often, it’s worth stepping back to ask: What’s working? What’s not? Are there goals I’ve already accomplished or priorities that need to shift?

Evaluation isn’t just about tweaking your to-do list — it’s also a chance to recognize how far you’ve come. That sense of accomplishment can be just the motivation you need to keep going.

Time is a gift, and taking time for time management might feel like it slows you down at first, but it’s actually the opposite. Planning, involving, pausing, and evaluating help you gain back time — and peace of mind — through clarity and consistency.

🪞 The truth is simple: spending a little time on what matters most can save you a lot of stress later. And that’s time well spent.
