My Annual Migration to the Coast
A gentle return to myself
Every year, around this time, I do what I lovingly call my annual migration to the coast.
Not to escape life… but to return to myself.
It’s not a dramatic getaway or a grand reset. It’s a quiet choice. A knowing.
A recognition that something in me needs space, rhythm, and room to breathe again.
The ocean has a way of stripping things down to what matters.
The noise softens.
The constant mental tabs quietly close.
The calendar loosens its grip.
And slowly, almost without effort, I remember how to breathe again.
There’s no agenda here. No checklist. No version of productivity disguised as “rest.”
Just long walks where thoughts untangle themselves.
Mornings where the light comes in gently instead of urgently.
Evenings where I notice how tired I actually am — not the tired that sleep fixes, but the deeper kind that comes from holding a lot for a long time.
This time away is about rest, renewal, refocus, and re-energizing… and reading — the kind of reading that feeds your soul, not your to-do list. The kind that reminds you who you are underneath the roles you carry.
It’s about letting my nervous system finally unclench.
About listening without rushing to respond.
About creating enough quiet to hear myself again.
The truth I hope someone hears today
👉 Pulling inward is not quitting.
👉 Stepping back is not selfish.
👉 Going quiet is not giving up.
In a world that celebrates hustle, output, and constant availability, choosing rest can feel rebellious. Especially if you’re someone who carries others — emotionally, practically, invisibly. Caregivers. Nurturers. Fixers. The steady ones.
But this is self-care in its truest form.
When life has been loud, demanding, or emotionally heavy, sometimes the bravest thing you can do isn’t to push through — it’s to pause. To turn inward. To ask yourself, What do I need right now? …and then to actually listen, without negotiating or minimizing the answer.
✨ Glow Note – Rest isn’t something you earn — it’s something you allow.
Sometimes the glow doesn’t come from doing more, but from softening, slowing, and letting yourself be held by stillness.
My Personal Take
If you’ve been feeling tired in a way sleep doesn’t fix…
If you’ve been showing up while quietly running on empty…
Please hear this as a loving nudge, not a push:
📢 You’re allowed to recharge.
And when you’re ready, the world will still be there.
Your responsibilities will still exist.
Your people will still matter.
But you’ll return to them steadier… clearer… more grounded…and glowing from the inside out. 💛
🪞 Remember: You don’t have to disappear to take care of yourself. A few quiet moments. A boundary lovingly held. A deep breath taken on purpose. These small pauses can restore more than we realize.
